Virginia is for Kentucky Derby/Oaks Preps

The ad campaign says “Virginia Is for Lovers”. Today, it’s for horse racing at Colonial Downs.

We are looking at five races here this afternoon. We begin with race 5, which is the Royal New Kent Stakes which is for older horses going a mile.

Then we have two divisions of the Sandy Bottom Stakes as older fillies and mares will also go one mile. Then Oaks and Derby points will be up for grabs. First, the three-year-old fillies will go a mile and a sixteenth in the Virginia Oaks. Then the boys get the spotlight in the Virginia Derby, going a mile and an eighth.
