Top o’ the mornin’ to ya1 Happy St. Patrick’s Day to all who celebrate, and today we are celebrating at my home track Parx. We are featuring race seven on their ten-race card.
Our race is a starter allowance optional race for older fillies and mares going seven furlongs. Let’s see if we find the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow today.
Parx Race 7 – Starter Allowance Optional Claiming
Favored in our featured race is the 5 House of Magic (7/2 morning line). She races for the first time since September at Penn National where she steadied at the start and then was wide and did not fire. Could also argue racing twice in a week may have been a root cause as well. But she will start the pace here this afternoon in her return race.
The 7 Byebyejealouseye (6/1 ML) appears to be the speed of the race here. She wants the lead and should get it today. But she does have a habit of tiring in her races.
The 4 Mila Rose (9/2 ML) returns for the first race of 2026 after a trouble trip in December. She has faced tougher in Kentucky last summer and fall. Look for her to be not far off the pace here today if she is ready here for her first race in almost three months.
The 6 Shubagail (6/1 ML) was bumped around at the start but made a strong move to get second two weeks ago here at Parx after a two-month break. She is a closer and should be able to make a strong move late.
Joe’s Pick
In a race like this, I sometimes look to see who the most consistent horse is. Right now, this looks like Shubagail. She finished in the top three in each of her last three races and will be second race off of a layoff which is a handicapping angle that many like to use. She should be able to get up late to win this race today.
