Coolmore Secures Future Stallion Prospect Nysos
One of the most coveted stallion prospects in North American racing has officially landed in Coolmore’s hands.
Coolmore and its partners have announced the purchase of an ownership interest in Grade 1 winner Nysos, the brilliant son of Nyquist who has developed into one of the sport’s elite older horses. As part of the agreement, Nysos will stand at Ashford Stud in Kentucky upon the conclusion of his racing career, with his stallion debut slated for 2027.
The move had been widely anticipated within bloodstock circles since reports surfaced earlier this year, but the official announcement confirms that one of the most talented runners trained by Bob Baffert will eventually join an already formidable stallion roster at Ashford.
Nysos has long carried the profile of a future commercial sire. He burst onto the scene as a 2-year-old with a dazzling 10 1/2-length maiden victory at Santa Anita in October 2023, immediately stamping himself as a colt of uncommon ability. He followed that effort with consecutive graded stakes victories before a lengthy interruption to his career sidelined him from February 2024 until May 2025.
His return to action proved well worth the wait.
Making his comeback in the Grade 1 Churchill Downs Stakes on Kentucky Derby Day, Nysos finished in a dead-heat for second behind Mindframe in what would ultimately be his only defeat of the 2025 campaign. From there, he reeled off four consecutive victories, including triumphs in the Grade 3 Triple Bend Stakes, the Grade 2 San Diego Handicap, the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile at Del Mar, and the Grade 2 Laffit Pincay Jr. Stakes at Santa Anita.
The Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile victory solidified his standing among the nation’s top older horses and significantly enhanced his value as a future stallion prospect.
Nysos opened 2026 on the international stage, finishing a strong second behind Japanese superstar Forever Young in the Saudi Cup. The performance further elevated his reputation and reinforced the belief that even bigger accomplishments may still lie ahead.
Following the Saudi Cup, Baffert indicated the colt would be freshened before being aimed toward the Breeders’ Cup Classic later this season, a race that remains a primary objective for the connections.
The Coolmore investment extends beyond the racehorse himself. The operation already owns Nysos’ dam, Zetta Z, a daughter of Bernardini who was purchased for $2 million while carrying a foal by Cyberknife at the 2024 Fasig-Tipton February Mixed Sale. That acquisition now appears even more significant as Coolmore strengthens its position around one of the most attractive sire prospects in training.
For now, Nysos remains focused on racing, with the Breeders’ Cup Classic looming as the ultimate target for 2026. But whenever his racing days conclude, the powerful son of Nyquist already has his next career secured.
Ashford Stud will be waiting.
