Quills Picks Winners – Sunday 6/14 – Woodbine Race 9
After a fun day at Monmouth Park, we close out another week with a race up north at Woodbine. Our featured race is race nine as a field of seven will sprint six and a half furlongs on the main track.

Woodbine Race 9 – Allowance Optional Claiming
Favored in today’s featured race is the 4 William T (2/1 morning line). He finished second in an optional claiming race where he chased but could not get to the winner. He was gelded since his last start and will be running for the second time after a nine-month layoff.
The 1 El Magnate (5/2 ML) had all kinds of trouble in his debut here at Woodbine last month and showed he was much the best. He had trouble at the start of the race as he leapt up at the start, leaving him last. After catching up quickly with the field, he clipped heals with a horse in front of him at the quarter pole before getting his momentum and circling the field. He faced elders today but could be another nice Mark Casse horse.
The 6 Marshal (3/1 ML) finished second last time out in an optional claiming race at Woodbine but did have some trouble. He was in tight around the eighth pole, but he was tiring in the stretch when the winner came inward toward him on the rail. He did hold on to second today and figures to be on the lead again today.
The 7 Navy Street (6/1 ML) races for the first time in 2026 after not showing much in the Coronation Futurity in November. He will face older here and shorten up to a sprint where he may be more comfortable.

Joe’s Pick
I was extremely impressed with El Magnate’s debut race. With all the trouble he had, he still was much the best last month. He will face elders but these do not appear to be world beaters. He looks tough here and should be able to get the job done here today.
I’m calling this race 1-4-6-7 and my play is $20 to win on the 1. Best of luck and I’ll see you in the winer’s circle!
