Quills Picks Winners – Tuesday 7/7 – Horseshoe Indianapolis Race 5

I thought we would take a look at one of the race tracks that we plan on looking at on Also Eligible this Saturday morning at 10 am Eastern Time. The Indiana Derby is on Saturday, so I thought we would take a race there today in preparation for the biggest day of their meet.

Today’s race is race five of an eleven-race card. Our race is an allowance race for fillies and mares. This field of seven will go one mile on the main track today.

Horseshoe Indianapolis Race 5 – Allowance

Favored in our featured race is the 2 Spun Up (2/1 morning line). She won in her first race in three months winning an off-the-turf claiming race easily. She won her first race in 12 tries on dirt about six weeks ago and may have just taken advantage of a field of turf runners. Look for her to be close to the pace, but will she be there at the end?

The 3 Miss Susan B (7/2 ML) races for the first time since March after finishing second on Turfway Park’s Tapeta surface. Both wins have been on synthetic but has shown she can run some on dirt. She has shown she can be near the pace like in March or close from further out like the previous race there in February.

The 7 Really Fancy River (6/1 ML) broke her maiden here at Horseshoe Indy about six weeks ago while near the lead and dueling in the stretch. She faces winners for the first time, but she did hold her own against maiden claimers at Oaklawn over the spring. She could be closer to the pace with the outside post or could drop back like she did in April at Oaklawn.

The 1 Low Moon (4/1 ML) won two races in a row here at Horseshoe Indy, breaking her maiden in an off-the-turf race and then on the grass in a claiming race. She did run well on dirt year at Belterra Park in Cincinnati. The light bulb may have turned on for her in her last two races as she has found that she can win from off the pace.

Joe’s Pick

I have zero confidence in Spun Up today, which probably means she romps. I will take Really Fancy River here. She has had a couple of works since her win and appears that going two turns as well as heading to Indy might have been the answer. Look for her to get the job done here today.

I’m calling this race 7-1-3-2 and my play is $20 to win on the 7. Best of luck and I’ll see you in the winner’s circle!
