Quills Picks Winners – Tuesday 8/11 – Assiniboia Downs Race 6

We go from one of the southernmost points in North American racing in Gulfstream Park to one of the northernmost points that we cover here on the QPW in Assiniboia Downs. Tonight’s race is a claiming race going six furlongs. Ten horses will go postward in our race of the day.

Assiniboia Downs Race 6 – Claiming

Favored in our featured race today is the 9 You Cee Vee (5/2 morning line). He has won three races in a row, including at this claiming level three weeks ago. He has closed for wins like his most recent effort, or two back he dueled. This gelding may fit perfectly with this claiming level and has shown versatility in his races lately.

The 6 Red Road Runner (9/2 ML) drops in claiming price after his return to the races three weeks ago here at Assiniboia Downs. He likes to be close to the pace and should benefit from that race as he races tonight for the second time off of the layoff.

The 1 Flying Tex (15/1 ML) was claimed last month here at Assiniboia Downs where we finished third at this claiming level. He will shorten up after that race and should benefit from it. He did win a six furlong race here back in June where he stalked the pace and outdueled his opponent in the stretch.

The 8 Mr. Dazzle (7/2 ML) stalked the pace and tired in a higher level claiming race last month and finished fourth. He finished second at the end of June when he rallied while wide. He looks like he can stalk or close but he might be better suited to stalk here today.

This is an interesting race for a claiming race and I think that Red Road Runner benefits the most from his most recent race. He needed that race and should get a great trip to get up for the win tonight. Flying Tex and You Vee Cee should make it interesting late, but Red Road Runner will get the job done.
