Quills Picks Winners – Sunday 8/23 – Woodbine Race 7

After an exciting day of racing at Del Mar yesterday, we head northeast to Woodbine for today’s race. We will be looking at race seven of a nine-race card where seven horses will sprint five and a half furlongs on the main synthetic track in an optional claiming race.

Woodbine Race 7 – Allowance Optional Claiming

Favored in today’s race is the 1 Roi Soleil (2/1 morning line). He made a move on the turn but was unable to sustain that move in deep stretch. It was his first race in three months and he should benefit from it here this afternoon.

The 5 Quadzilla (4/1 ML) tired in the Lake Superior Stakes here at Woodbine last month after going for the lead. He wants the lead from the moment the gate opens, but there is other speed in the race here today. If he is on the lead, it will be contested.

The 7 Endrick (5/2 ML) will be gunning from the lead from the outside post in this race. He defeated starter allowance company in each of the last two races going gate to wire. He might be the candidate to take this field gate to wire here this afternoon.

The 6 Lazio (8/1 ML) did not fire against these same type horses three weeks ago. He won his three previous races and could be first to strike, especially if a speed duel does develop here.

There will be pressure on the front end here this afternoon. This will set up nicely for Lazio and the favorite Roi Soleil. I think the favorite bounces back and gets by everyone late for the win.
