Keepsake Box Logs Sharp 4F – Race Plan Update

Keepsake Box returned to the work tab Saturday morning at Palm Meadows Training Center, turning in a strong 4-furlong move over the dirt in :48.45 for trainer Saffie Joseph Jr.

This was a step forward from her previous maintenance breeze, showing more intent and continued progression in her training. Following this encouraging effort—and after discussions with breeder Machmer Hall—the team has decided to pivot and try her on the dirt for her next start.

She is now slated to run May 2 at Gulfstream Park. Saffie noted that her recent dirt works have been steadily improving, giving the team confidence to explore the surface switch.

There’s also a strong pedigree angle here, as her full brother Gift Box excelled on the dirt going two turns, earning over $1.1 million during his career. This marks a notable shift from the original plan to keep her on turf, but it’s always a positive sign when a filly trains her way into new opportunities
