Quills Picks Winners – Sunday 4/26 – Oaklawn Race 8

It’s the final Sunday of the meet at Oaklawn today. We will take a look at their featured race this afternoon. Once again, we have older fillies and mares featured. Today, those that never won a stakes race will sprint six furlongs in the Majestic Overnight Stakes.

Oaklawn Race 8 – Majestic Overnight Stakes

Favored in today’s race is the 5 Anakarina (5/2 morning line). She won a ratings handicap race in the slop three weeks ago here at Oaklawn. Her best races have been when she was on or near the lead and will look to do that again this afternoon.

She will be challenged on the front end by the 4 Spring Dancer (5/1 ML). She wants the lead as well and has been more consistent in getting the lead early. She looks for her third win of the Oaklawn meet and her fourth win in her last five races.

If those two duel down the backstretch, the 6 Ervadeen (3/1 ML) could have a perfect view of those two. She likes to do stalk right near the leaders and appears that she will be right behind the front two horses here today. She could even be on the hip of the top two down the backstretch ready to take over in the stretch.

The 1 Dream Concert (9/2 ML) appears to be the closer in the race. She may need to get out from the rail but did show the ability to close two races back, but could not keep up with Anakarina last time out.

I think we are going to get a speed duel this afternoon, and this will benefit Ervadeen and Dream Concertl. I lean towards the mare on the outside here. Having the first chance to take over the lead should be the winning strategy here this afternoon.
