Quills Picks Winners - Monday 5/11 - Louisiana Downs Race 2
At this time of year, not only are we talking about the Triple Crown races, we are also seeing more and more tracks opening up their seasons this time of year. One such track is Louisiana Downs, who opened up last week.
We will feature them this afternoon as we will take a look at the second race on their card. Today’s race is a claiming race going seven furlongs on the Bossier City main track. Seven Louisiana bred horses are entered in this event.
Louisiana Downs Race 2 – Claiming
Favored in today’s race is the 7 Blame Me Seriously (1/1 morning line). He comes in from Evangeline Downs where he tired when finishing fourth. He did run well here at Louisiana Downs last year and may enjoy the change in scenery here today.
The 4 Dixie’s Astro (6/1 ML) may have finished sixth in the slop at Evangeline, but he was closing late in that race last time out. He will be second race off of the layoff and should be closing late today.
The 2 Live Affair (9/2 ML) won late time out at Delta Downs in February with a rail trip. He returns today looking for two in a row, but has never hit the board in Bossier City.
The 1 Blazing Saber (3/1 ML) drew off to win last time out at Lone Star Park against $7,500 claimers there going one mile. He will shorten up though he may be a horse that prefers the mile distance. With the way this field looks, he could still win this despite showing his fondness for the mile distance.

This looks to be a tough race because we have horses running here for the first time this season at Louisiana Downs and also some horses are running off of a layoff. It is much tougher to gauge the Lone Star Park horses because you can only bet on that track in the US if you are in Texas.
But I will take Blazing Saber nonetheless here in the second race. He stalked last time out but he can race from off the pace. Let’s take him as we try to beat the favorite here this afternoon.
