Quills Picks Winners – Monday 6/15 – Parx Race 8

After a fun weekend, we head home to Parx for today’s race of the day. A field of seven are entered in this allowance race. This field will go a mile and 70 yards in this featured race.

There was a storm that went through overnight but I am guessing that the track will be fast by the time this race goes to post. If you are a last minute handicapper, you might have an edge here if the track is still wet.

Parx Race 8 – Allowance

Favored in our race today is the 5 Prince Colton (9/5 morning line). He returns from Delaware Park where he tried to go gate to wire in an allowance race. He wants the lead, but he has been caught late in each of his last four races. There does not appear to be other speed in this race so there could be the race he stays on the lead to the finish.

The 6 L Golden Boy (5/1 ML) returns for his first race since last October and appears to be the only horse that may challenge the favorite here. He does have a few five furlong workouts leading to his return, but I think he could need a race today.

The 2 Street Party (4/1 ML) races for the first time at Parx after being claimed two races back at Keeneland. He did have a race at Laurel between then where he finished a distant fourth. He has been close to the pace in his best two races of his career. If he can get in a good stalking position he has a great chance today.

The 4 Refuah (3/1 ML) changed trainers since his last race last month. He goes from a low percentage trainer to the top trainer on the Parx grounds. Expect this gelding to be closing in this race, especially if he can get a speed duel up front.

Joe’s Pick

Even though Prince Colton has been caught late in his last few races, we know where he will be, and that is on the lead. I think these horses in this race will not be able to keep up early which will lead to the favorite going gate to wire here though he will be challenged late by Refuah.

I’m calling this race 5-4-6-2 and my play is $20 to win on the 5. Best of luck and I’ll see you in the winner’s circle!
