Quills Picks Winners – Sunday 6/21 – Churchill Downs Race 7

After a frustrating day at Thistledown in the Cleveland area, we head back to Churchill Downs for today’s race. We are going to go with the seventh race on their card. It is a high-level claiming race for fillies and mares on the grass going one mile.

Churchill Downs Race 7 – Claiming 80k

Favored in today’s race is the 9 Back Ring Buzz (3/1 morning line). She drops in for a tag after two unsuccessful attempts against stakes company. Previously she stalked in races near the front at Turfway Park but could not get by the winner. Her win has been on the turf, but has not been that successful on it otherwise.

The 10 Plot (9/2 ML) faces winners for the first time after closing well to defeat maiden claimers on the grass here at Churchill. She does have a strong closing kick and may be able to get up late to win here today to make it two in a row.

The 6 Neenah (5/1 ML) races for the first time at Churchill and for the first time since December. She has run mostly on the main synthetic track at Woodbine but did hit the board three times in four tries on Woodbine’s lawn. Look for a stalking trip here this afternoon.

The 4 Got Gone (15/1 ML) finished a troubled third after steadying in the final sixteenth at Horseshoe Indianapolis last month. She looks like she could be a closer here but will she be tested.

This is a full field race today with lots of questions. I admit that I have no idea who goes for the lead here. It is possible that one of the stalkers inherit a lead that nobody appears to want.

This race should boil down to who has the best closing kick in a mad dash to the finish. If that’s the case, then I think Plot Is your horse here. She closed strongly in her two races at Churchill this spring and should be able to do it again.
