Quills Picks Winners – Friday 8/21 – Saratoga Race 9

The weather didn’t really materialize like I had thought at Saratoga yesterday but that the weather will be perfect today as he head into a big weekend of horse racing across America.

We will take a look at race nine of a 10-race card as they are featuring New York breds once again this afternoon. Today, eight three-year-old fillies will travel a mile and an eighth in the Fleet Indian Stakes.

Saratoga Race 9 – Fleet Indian Stakes

Favored in the Fleet Indian today is the 3 Venetta (5/2 morning line). She made a successful trip to Finger Lakes in winning the New York Oaks last month despite running wide throughout. She won three in a row including two state bred races. Look for her to sit and progress through the field like she has in those two stakes wins.

The 5 Lady Rose (8/1 ML) stalked the pace against allowance foes last time last week and drew off to win easily going a mile. She stretches out and her pedigree does suggest she should be able to handle two turns without any real issues.

The 1 Power of Women (10/1 ML) faces stakes company for the first time, but she does have the speed to take this field a long way. She did progress nicely last time out in a starter allowance here at Saratoga, but there is other speed in the race.

The 8 Unlock the Value (9/2 ML) won in the slop here at Saratoga last month to break her maiden as a first-time starter. She had the lead in a show race but did draw off nicely. If she can sit today with the speed in this race, she could be an interesting play here today.

This could set up very nicely for the favorite here today. Venetta had a wide trip but proved she was much the best in the New York Oaks last time out. She could get a challenge from Unlock the Value, but I think the favorite will get the job done here this afternoon.
