Quills Picks Winners – Friday 6/12 – Santa Anita Race 7
After a second cancellation this week, this time because of a power outage at Santa Anita, we hope the power stays on today. We’ll take another change at the Great Race Place as fillies and mares will race a mile and a quarter on the grass in the Possibly Perfect Stakes.

Santa Anita Race 7 – Possibly Perfect Stakes
Favored in this field of nine fillies and mares is the 8 Hey Jessie (7/2 morning line). She stalked then floated wide in the Santa Barbara, winning by almost a length going longer. She faced three of these horses last time out and will look to close for another win here this afternoon.
The 5 Ulysses Rose (9/2 ML) flattened late in the Santa Barbara finishing third. This will be her third race off of the layoff and third race in North America. She is still a maiden but does have a closing kick that can help her here this afternoon as she shortens up in this race.
The 3 Innovative (5/1 ML) races for the second time in 2026 after finishing off the board in the Grade 3 Royal Heroine Stakes. She gets some class relief here and could be on the lead here that is devoid of any real speed.
The 4 The Mizen Queen (10/1 ML) finished fourth in an optional claiming race last time out but could not rally enough to get closer at the finish. She faces stakes company in North America for the first time where she should be stalking the pace here today.

Joe’s Pick
This is a wide open race and you can make a case for most of the fillies and mares entered. I admit that I do see a good race bad race pattern from the favorite here, but I will take Hey Jessie to close late to get the win here.
I’m calling this race 8-5-3-4 and my play is $20 to win on the 8. Best of luck and I’ll see you in the winner’s circle!
