Quills Picks Winners – Monday 10/26 – Horseshoe Indianapolis Race 7
It’s a new week, and it is probably the busiest week of the year for yours truly. This week, we will be in a very small area of the country all week. Today is the first of two days that we will spend at Horseshoe Indianapolis.
Today’s race is race seven of a nine-race card. We have a field of 14 fillies and mares, with up to 12 running in an optional claiming race. The two horses on the outside, the 13 Beach Dancer and the 14 Larksong are entered for the main track only and will be scratched unless this race is mysteriously taken off the turf course.

Horseshoe Indianapolis Race 7 – Starter Allowance Optional Claiming
Favored in this race is the 9 I Made It (5/2 morning line). She closed strongly after a wide move on the final turn to win by over two lengths. She has shown that she can run from both off the pace and near it, but she only has three career starts on the grass in her career. But last time out was on the turf.
The 8 Ranch Life (8/1 ML) closed well and finished third in a similarly conditioned race here two weeks ago here at Horseshoe Indy. She missed second by a length that day when facing the favorite. She appears that she will sit back and try to make a move just like she did last time out, but she will have to prove that she can do that again on the turf.
The 6 Lady Blake (10/1 ML) tired last month here at Horseshoe Indy after stalking the pace along the rail. Look for her to stalk again today with some speed on the inside of her. If she can run like she did two races back here at Indy when she won, she will have a chance today.
The 7 Lucky Shore (20/1 ML) finished off the board after tiring here two weeks ago. She has had success hitting the board at Belterra Park in Cincinnati this summer, finishing second or third on five straight occasions. She will have to step up her game here, but with a field like this, anything could happen, even for a horse that has not won in two years.

Joe’s Pick
I admit this is a tough race to figure out because these horses aren’t the best horses on the grounds, but this is a race where there are a ton of pieces here to consider.
In the end, I think we should just take the favorite I Made It. She won on the turf here at the beginning of the month and should he taking over late in the stretch to win. I’m calling this race 9-7-8-6 and my play is $20 to win on the 9. Best of luck and I’ll see you in the winner’s circle!
