Quills Picks Winners – Monday 4/27 – Parx Race 8

All the action is at Churchill Downs this week, but we will make a stop at Parx this afternoon as we are five days away from Kentucky Derby 152. While Churchill Downs is dark today, we will take a look at race eight on a nine-race card at Parx today.

Today’s race is an allowance race going one mile on the main track. Ten horses are entered in today’s race of the day.

Parx Race 8 – Allowance

Favored in today’s featured race is the 6 Lucky Dude (5/2 morning line). He did have to steady at the start of his last race here 12 days ago. He was bumped at the start but stalked on the outside and ran well despite the trouble at the start. This gelding goes two turns for the first time since last summer where he finished second going a sixteenth further than today’s distance.

The 7 All American Rod (3/1 ML) has gone two turns in his last two races. He finished second in a short and strung out field last time out, but did win two races back in a 40k claiming race. He does like to be near the pace, so don’t be surprised if he and the favorite are racing next to each other all the way around the track today.

The 10 Prince Colton 95/1 ML) will try to go gate to wire here today. He is a horse that only knows one way to run, and that is on the lead. He will have a short run into the first turn and might have to use some extra energy going for the lead here today.

The 1 Chance (10/1 ML) may have an opportunity to pull off an upset here this afternoon. Lats time going two turns here at Parx, he beat a claiming field by 17 lengths. The previous two-turn try was back in January at Laurel Park where he closed between foes to get up in time. He looks like he will love the move back to two turns here this afternoon after finishing third, a length behind Lucky Dude sprinting 12 days ago.

I doubt we will get 10/1 on Chance, but I think things get up nicely for an upset here. He did bounce some, but he also was sprinting. He returns to routing which his pedigree screams to run. Also, I think he can make a late move like that move at Laurel in January to get up for the win here at a nice price.

I’m calling this race 1-6-7-9 and my play is $20 to win on the 1. Best of luck and I’ll see you in the winner’s circle!
