Quills Picks Winners – Monday 6/1 – Parx Race 6
We head home to start a new week and a new month. Today we look at racing from Parx, specifically race six on a nine-race card. We have a starter allowance optional claiming race here going six and a half furlongs in our Monday feature.

Parx Race 6 – Starter Allowance Optional Claiming
Favored in today’s race is the 5 Huggy (7/2 ML). He was claimed under these race conditions last month here at Parx. He clipped heels on the backstretch with another horse when a bunch of horses were bumping around stumbling. He did have a strong move late but could not get to the winner. The clipping heels is hard to find but he was part of the hysteria down the backstretch.
The 3 Sams After Party (5/1 ML) was the most affected by the bumping down the backstretch as he was the one who was forced inward which led to the chain reaction. He is usually close to the pace like he was before everything occurred. Look for him to be stalking again, hopefully without any incident.
The 8 Fielding (5/1 ML) took up sharply down the backstretch and could not sustain a bid on the turn through the stretch. He races for the second time at Parx after that troubled debut. I would not be surprised if they try to go for the lead here and try to stay out of trouble early.
The 6 Smile Maker (4/1 ML) is the only horse that did not race in that troubled race last month. This gelding shortens up after being unable to rally back in April here at Parx. His best races last fall and winter were near the lead and going one mile but also shoes a win a year ago on the front end sprinting. It will be interesting where he is placed today.

Joe’s Pick
I admit that I have a hard time when most if not all horses in the field raced against each other. That is what we have here with seven of the eight horses entered running in that optional claiming race last month.
I’ll take Fielding here today. He appears to be the most affected horse initially from all the chaos in that common race. Look for him to sustain his bid on the turn if he gets a similar trip today. Him taking up was a momentum killer for that race and he should be able to bounce back today.
I’m calling this race 8-3-5-6 and my play is $20 to win on the 8. Best of luck and I’ll see you in the winner’s circle!
