Quills Picks Winners – Monday 6/29 – Parx Race 5

After an emotional day on the final day of Aqueduct, we head home to Parx for today’s race of the day. Our featured race is the fifth as a field of eight horses will go a mile and 70 yards in this starter allowance optional claiming race.

Note that we did get a ton of run last night in my area of Philadelphia, which is not far from Bensalem where the track is located. We could see a wet track here today, so if you are really into track conditions, we could see a wet track.

But it should dry out quickly as we are in the cusp of a major heat wave to hit the area where we could get well over 100 degrees. We may be seeing a bunch of cancellations this week, not just at Parx but also up and down the eastern part of the country.

But let’s get to this race before the real heat arrives in a day or two.

Parx Race 5 – Starter Allowance Optional Claiming

Favored in today’s race is the 4 Party With Smarty (5/2 ML). He comes in from Laurel Park where she finished a tiring fourth in a mile race. He has run well at Laurel since breaking the maiden in his 26th try. Though he broke his maiden with a last to first run, he seems to run his best races near the front.

The 5 Twooutathreaintbad (4/1 ML) races for the for the second time off of a layoff where he broke his maiden last month with a rail trip. He will see who good two out of three is if he can win his second race in three career attempts.

The1 Ice Shot (6/1 ML) comes in from Delaware Park where he finished off the board in an optional claiming race. He did break his maiden in the slop at Aqueduct in February going a mile.

The 7 Psalmist (5/1 ML) finished a distant third to a runaway winner last time out. He likes to sit at the back of the pack and try to make a move.

There is no way that I can bet a horse that is 1 for 31 lifetime, whether he is the morning line favorite or the longest of long shots. I like the prospects of Twooutathreaintbad here in this race. He should get a similar trip to what he had last month and will get up for the win here this afternoon.
