Quills Picks Winners – Saturday 8/1 – Del Mar Race 10

We are also putting the spotlight out west for the Clement L. Hirsch Stakes at Del Mar this evening. Fillies and mares will go a mile and a sixteenth in this Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In” race.

Del Mar Race 10 – Clement L. Hirsch Stakes

Favored in this Del Mar race is the 8 Seismic Beauty (5/2 morning line). She tired in the Grade 2 Santa Margarita against some of these horses at the end of May. She wants to go for the lead and will try to take this field gate to wire this evening from an outside post.

The 6 Simply Joking (5/1 ML) also likes to be on the front end and was pressured by Seismic Beauty in the Santa Margarita. This looks like the same set up as that race even though there were a few less horses that day compared to what is entered today.

The 1 Chasten (4/1 ML) won the Obeah Stakes at Delaware Park in June and comes west for today’s race. She likes to be off the pace and can benefit from a speed duel up front this evening.

The 3 Om N Joy (6/1 ML) won the Santa Margarita and benefitted from the speed duel that day. This race looks to be the same set up, but there will be more horses in this race. If she can settle near the back of the pack like she did in May, she could replicate her result again this evening.

Joe’s Clement L. Hirsch Pick

I see a bunch of speed in this race where we could see horses on the front end tiring again today. I admit, Om N Joy got a dream set up last time out and could get it again this afternoon. Look for her to get up late again today to get the berth in the Breeders’ Cup Distaff.
