Quills Picks Winners – Sunday 7/26 – Woodbine Race 6
After splitting our attention to two different tracks, today we are focusing solely north of the border for today’s race. This afternoon, we have three-year-old fillies sprinting six furlongs on the main Tapeta surface this afternoon in the Thunder Bay Stakes.
A field of nine fillies are entered in today’s race. The race is essentially restricted to Ontario breds, but there is much more definition to this race. All the details are in the program and below are all the details that you need to know for this race.
Woodbine Race 6 – Thunder Bay Stakes
Favored in the Thunder Bay is the 4 Souper Diva (9/5 morning line). She gunned to the lead in the Georgian Bay but was caught late in that race. She knows one way to run and that is on the lead, but it is a bit concerning to be that she continues to get caught late in races.
The 2 Souper Sporty (5/1 ML) caught today’s favorite late in the Georgian Bay as she stalked right behind the leader. She may be rounding back into form after her third race after having the winter off. She may have found her niche running in grass sprints but she was tiring on the main track.
The 7 Splash of Bourbon (3/’1 ML) races on the grass for the first time today but should be able to handle the turf course. She has run very well in her three races after the winter off, including a pair of optional claiming races. Expect her to stalk, possibly right at the hip of Super Diva this afternoon.
The 9 Zabarta (15/1 ML) showed nothing in an optional claiming race here last month and will make her turf debut today. She is a deep closer and if she takes to the turf as expected, she might be getting at least a piece of this late.

I am concerned about the favorite losing leads late. Since I am mentioning it that way, she probably goes gate to wire. But I will take Splash of Bourbon here. She will be sitting right behind the favorite in a perfect position to take the lead late in this race.
