Quills Picks Winners – Sunday 9/27 – Remington Park Race 12
We take our first look of the season at Remington Park in Oklahoma City for today’s race of the day. We will probably have a couple more evenings of Remington Park racing before they close up shop on their thoroughbred season in December.
Today’s race is the Oklahoma Derby. These three-year-olds will go a mile and an eighth in this Grade 3 race. A field of 10 horses is entered in the Remington Park finale.

Remington Park Race 12 – Oklahoma Derby (Grade 3)
Favored in the Oklahoma Derby this evening is the 2 Silent Tactic (5/2 morning line). He was eased in the Travers, but that was more to protect him for the next race, which ends up being today. He was closer to the pace in the Grade 2 Jim Dandy, finishing third that day after leading briefly on the final turn. This colt has faced some of the top three-year-olds and will get a bit of class relief here.
The 9 Tricky Business (6/1 ML) appears to be the speed in this race this evening. He went gate to wire to win the Albany Stakes in the slop at Saratoga last month. If no one goes with him on the lead, it could be him going gate to wire today.
The 1 The Hell We Did (10/1 ML) finished fourth in the St. Louis Derby at Fairmount Park, but was beaten by less than two lengths. It appears that he is learning how to rate behind horses and make a late move. The wide trip didn’t help last time out but if he can get a rail trip, who knows, right?
The 4 Zihnal (7/2 ML) was scratched from the Pennsylvania Derby last week to run today at Remington. He won the West Virginia Derby last time out going mostly gate to wire last time out. He may be challenging Tricky Business on the front end tonight.

Joe’s Pick
I think Silent Tactic does bounce back today after he was eased in the Travers. But I also think that The Hell We Did is learning how to rate behind leaders and has shown interest late in his last two races. I think we will see an upset here this evening as The Hell We Did gets his graded stakes win.
I’m calling this race 1-2-9-4 and my play if $20 to win on the 1. Best of luck and I’ll see you in the winner’s circle!
