Quills Picks Winners – Thursday 4/2 – Gulfstream Park Race 8
We head to the other side of the state and Gulfstream Park for today’s race of the day. The Championship Meet in Hallandale Beach is over, and today they start the Royal Palm Meet. Some of the big faces and names have gone north while some of the faces that call Gulfstream home year-round will be in the spotlight.
Today, our feature race is race eight. Three-year-olds will spring five and a half furlongs on the Tapeta track. A field of seven three-year-olds are entered in today’s race.
Gulfstream Park Race 8 – Allowance
Favored in today’s race is the 3 Bronze Bullet (7/5 ML). He shortens up after racing a mile on the turf here last month. He does have a win and a second in two tries at this distance on the Tapeta, so that might help. But will he be closer to the pace with the race only going one turn?
The 2 Fear (5/2 ML) had an improved performance but still did not hit the board last month here at Gulfstream. He might get a bit of relief with some of the big names off to their northern locales, but he appears to want to be near the front today.
The 1 Skipping Stars (10/1 ML) may be the speed of this race though there really is not an obvious speed horse here. But he has tired in the past in races, especially in sprint races like today.
The 7 Losmastix (4/1 ML) closed to win an optional claiming race here two weeks ago at today’s distance on the Tapeta. Even if the horses do not go insanely fast on the front end, he should be able to close here if there are horses dueling.

I admit that I have had a tough time on this race. There is no obvious speed horse here and this race looks like a crapshoot. I am going to take my shot here with the horse on the outside today. Losmastixshould be able to close despite the fact that there is not an obvious speed horse here. I think horses not being used to being on the lead, adding the fact that they have a history of tiring, will help Losmastix today.
