Quills Picks Winners – Thursday 5/28 – Churchill Downs Race 6
It’s Thursday, which means we will spotlight Churchill Downs and their Twilight Thursday card. Today’s race is race six of an eight race card as fillies and mares will sprint six furlongs on the main track. A field of eleven is entered in our featured race.

Churchill Downs Race 6 – Allowance Optional Claiming
Favored in our featured race today is the 1 Feminism (8/5 morning line). She won her debut at Oaklawn last month. She was among the leaders and early and drew off late to win. She will have some company on the front end but should be able to handle winners and older horses for the first time today.
The 5 Where Luck Lives (3/1 ML) went gate to wire at Keeneland last month to break her maiden. We will see if she goes for the lead again like she did in her first race off of a six-month layoff. She could be versatile and be off the pace like she was in her debut last fall. We’ll see what she does, but I think that she could be on the lead here.
The 8 Woodstock (8/1 ML) finished third in the Acadiana Stakes at Evangeline Downs last month, outfinished for place in that race. Before that she was facing stakes company at Oaklawn Park over the winter. She might get tossed here but I would not do so. I think she has the ability to stalk the pace here this evening.
The 11 French Blue (6/1 ML) draws the outside post in today’s race and will probably end up having the same outside run she had last time out. She ran in an optional claiming race on Oaks Day here at Churchill and made a middle move. But the sweeping move while five-wide cost her in the long run as she tired. Look for her to try to get better positioning here today.

Joe’s Pick
This race all depends on what Where Luck Lives does. If she rates like she did in her debut, it could mean the favorite wins. If she goes for the lead, things could get interesting. But I think Feminism is too strong for this group and will start her career off with her second consecutive win. She will be challenged late by Woodstock and French Blue, but the favorite will get the job done.
I’m calling this race 1-11-8-5 and my play is $20 to win on the 1. Best of luck and I’ll see you in the winner’s circle!
