Quills Picks Winners – Thursday 9/3 – Del Mar Race 7
The season is also winding down at Del Mar for their summer season and today we will take a look at race seven of an eight-race card this afternoon. A field of ten California bred or sired fillies and mares will go one mile on the main track in an optional claiming race.
Del Mar Race 7 – Allowance Optional Claiming
Favored in today’s race is the 2 Christel Clean (5/2 ML). He raced last month for the first time following a two month break where she dueled on the lead but could not sustain her bid but still held on for second. This will not only be the second race off of the layoff, it will also be her second attempt going two turns on the main track. She might be close to the pace again today but she did stalk a couple of times sprinting on the main track.
The 4 Pavel Is Appealing (7/2 ML) will go two turns today and will go two turns on the main track for the first time today. She closed strongly in her last two races on the grass sprinting five furlongs here at Del Mar. If she can go two turns, she will get the stamina from the dam (mother’s) side of the pedigree. If she can settle going two turns, she could close late for the win.
The 7 Theresasilverlinin (12/1 ML) stalked the page in a claiming race here at Del Mar and won going away. She is stepping up in class, but the only bad race she really has is an automatic toss out from two races back at Los Al. Look for a stalking trip here.
The 9 Lino’s Angel (8/1 ML) dueled Christel Clean last time out and tired late in that race. She is usually a stalker, but if she does go for the lead again she could get tired late again.

We will swing for the fences again. Though it is very possible that the favorite is alone on the lead and goes gate to wire, I think there is enough speed here that the stalkers and closers will be coming. I think that Theresasilverlinin has an opportunity to stalk here and could prove that Los Al race was an outlier race.
