Quills Picks Winners – Tuesday 5/26 – Assiniboia Downs Race 6

Happy Tuesday everyone! Yes, it is Tuesday though it feels like Monday as we need north of the border to our Tuesday stop, Assiniboia Downs. Tonight’s featured race is race six of a seven-race card. An overflow field of 11, with up to ten horses running, will sprint six furlongs in their featured race.

Assiniboia Downs Race 6 – Allowance

Favored in this evening’s race is the 6 Prime Suspect (7/5 morning line). He came north from Oaklawn and went gate to wire in his AsD debut two weeks ago. He will take on winners for the first time, but he was facing tough company in Kentucky and Arkansas.  He looks like a horse that wants to be on the lead and will see if he can play “catch me if you can” again tonight.

The 3 Mighty Mikee (5/1 ML) flopped in his 2026 debut after an impressive two-year-old campaign. Two weeks ago here, he stalked and faded in allowance company. He needed that race and will benefit from that race. But he does have a very tough favorite a few stalls to his right this evening.

The 2 Betterlucknexttime (8/1 ML) races for the first time in 2026 after taking the winter off. He has been on the lead in the past, but he can also rate like he did in mid-July. I don’t think he is fast enough for the lead, but can he rate behind horses from this post?

The 1 Really Ralis (6/1 ML) won his debut in October at now defunct Hastings Park with a move at the three-eighths pole, holding on for the win. He moves east to Winnipeg from Vancouver for tonight’s seasonal debut with a trainer that can get horses ready to run despite the small sample size. He might need a race, but he could be closing late in this race, especially if that rail opens up for him.

Joe’s Pick

You know that I will try to tell you which picks are ROI type picks that I am going for and those picks which are for the win percentage. This is a win percentage play. I think Prime Suspect is too fast and too classy for this group and goes gate to wire here tonight.

I’m calling this race 6-3-1-2. Two plays for tonight are on the agenda. First play is a $20 win play on the 6. Also, I’ll go with a $1 superfecta key of 6 over the 1, 2 and 3. That’s a $6 play, and if any of those four horses are scratched, there will be no backup superfecta play.
