Quills Picks Winners – Tuesday 5/5 – Parx Race 9

We stay at Parx on this Cinco de Mayo as a short field of six horses will go a mile and a sixteenth in an optional claiming event on race nine of a ten race card.

Parx Race 9 – Allowance Optional Claiming

Favored in today’s race is the 6 Duration (2/1 morning line). He stretches out after her third win in a row. Last time out he stalked and took over in a six-and-a-half-furlong test. He may end up winning this race, but his pedigree does not scream two turns. But he could end up going this distance today.

The 2 Lure Him In (5/2 ML) finished off the board at Laurel last month, but this gelding was making a late move despite being wide on the turn. He likes to be closer to the pace, but Duration is probably faster due to sprinting, but he should be able to handle the longer distance better.

The 1 Boss Logic (8/1 ML) closed strongly in a claiming race last month here at Parx after his first race in nearly six months. He should be able to close again here with the potential speed in this race this afternoon.

The 4 Otter Mischief (7/2 ML) may be the fastest of the field out of the gate today. He finished this in a strung out field back in March in the mud. He definitely is a one-trick pony where he wants and needs the lead to run his best race.

We have a ton of speed in this short field and it could benefit the closers in this race. As a result, I will take Boss Logic in a bit of an upset here. I think he gets that setup here this afternoon.
