Quills Picks Winners – Tuesday 6/2 – Assiniboia Downs Race 5
After a win at Parx, we head to our Tuesday racing spot with Assiniboia Downs. Today’s featured race is the Beau Blade Stakes as a field of seven horses will sprint five and a half furlongs.
Assiniboia Downs Race 5 – Beau Blade Stakes
Favored in tonight’s race is the 4 Dreaming of Kona (8/5 morning line). He changes barns after racing at Woodbine last month in the Thorncliff Stakes. He started off slow but closed from the back of the pack to finish fourth, but only a length and a half behind the leaders. The move to regular dirt from synthetic will not be an issue for this six-year-old. He may not have won yet this year, but he was facing some tough fields.
The 7 Ceepeegee (5/2 ML) made his AsD debut last month and wore down the leader from the outside in an optional claiming race. He likes to be close to the pace, and starting from the outside gate tonight will allow him to replicate his race last month with speed on the inside this evening.
The 2 Dominant Spirit (4/1 ML) completed his trek north from Texas to Winnipeg for tonight’s race after a pit stop at Legacy Downs in Nebraska. He had a late rally in the Warhorse Speed Stakes there but was not getting to the winner. He is usually closer to the pace and could be part of a speed duel here this evening.
The 1 Just Trust Me (8/1 ML) gunned for the lead in his 2026 debut here at AsD, but was caught late by Ceepeegee in that race last month. This colt is a need the lead type horse and could be too fast to be challenged early. But we could see a replay of that race from last month here tonight.

I think we are getting a replay of the race from three weeks ago though Dreaming of Kona will do everything in his power to not have that happen. He will probably be stalking but I think that Ceepeegee will stalk on the outside again and taking over for the win this evening.
