Quills Picks Winners – Wednesday 5/13 – Horseshoe Indianapolis Race 8
After a fairly late-night last night, we head to Horseshoe Indianapolis for today’s featured race. We are on the grass today as three-year-old fillies are on the grass in the Cleopatra Handicap. A field of 11 sophomore fillies will go a mile in this turf test.

Horseshoe Indianapolis Race 8 – Cleopatra Handicap
Favored in the Cleopatra Handicap is the 4 East Jabip (7/2 morning line). She is two for two in her young career after winning at Keeneland last month. She sat behind the leaders and made her move in the final quarter mile of the race for the win. This filly is bred for the grass on both sides of the family tree and has the potential to be someone in the three-year-old turf division to talk about this year.
The 6 The Town Tempter (8/1 ML) finished off the board on the Tapeta at Turfway Park in March. She trained up for this race at Turfway and should be ready to fire. She will be on the going two turns for the first time today, but she is bred for the added distance. On the turf, she is two for two in sprint races at the Fair Grounds, so she might have the right combination that might be overlooked.
The 6 How About Now (6/1 ML) has found a home on the grass in her last two races. She broke her maiden last time out in a maiden race at Keeneland last month, closing with a rail bid for her first career win. Look for her to make a strong move late in this race today.
The 9 Soloist (9/2 ML) finished off the board at Keeneland last month in her first race in six months. She ran well in October, also at Keeneland in the Grade 2 Jessamine where she was outkicked to the finish in a race where she finished fourth. She needed that race last month and should be ready to fire here this afternoon.

Joe’s Pick
With this time of the year with a race like this, we can see what connections are guessing, who are looking at pedigrees and who have a horse that have experience on the turf. In The Town Tempter, we have a filly here where she has run well on the grass, but it looks like so far her connections have not attempted to tap into her full potential. That opportunity is today.
We will see if she can go two turns, which I think she can. She already won twice on the grass and should be ready for her two turn debut, which her pedigree suggests she will love. I’ll take a chance on her to get the job done here this afternoon.
I’m calling this race 6-4-8-9 and my play is $20 to win on the 6. Best of luck and I’ll see you in the winner’s circle!
