Quills Picks Winners – Wednesday 5/27 – Parx Race 8

We head home to Parx on this Wednesday for our featured race today. Today’s race is race eight of a nine-race card and we have fillies and mares sprinting six furlongs in this allowance test.

Parx Race 8 – Allowance

Favored in todays’ race is the 3 Little Cocoa Bean (7/2 morning line). She raced in a state-bred allowance here at Parx on short rest and went gate to wire for the win. She is under a more ideal rest period and should be ready to fire this afternoon.

The 4 Central to Success (6/1 ML) made a wide move after a short layoff and closed well to finish third. She returns today after that race at the end of March looking for her second career win. She has won on the front end, but that last race may have shown a new wrinkle in her running style today.

The 2 Misspent (5/1 ML) has won three in a row moving up the claiming ranks and an optional claiming race last time out at Parx two weeks ago. She will challenge the favorite here this afternoon from the time the gate opens as she is also a horse that wants the lead early.

The 7 Icona Mama (4/1 ML) finished third in her first race at 10 months at Penn National a few weeks ago. She was unable to show that closing kick that she has shown. She needed that race and should get a good trip here this afternoon for her second race of 2026.

Joe’s Pick

This is a race where you can make a case for all seven horses in the field. I’ll go with Central to Success here. She has been a filly that wants to be close to the lead, but I think that she might have found a new running style last time out. If she can sit behind the potential speed duel, she will get up late for the win.
