Quills Picks Winners – Wednesday 7/15 – Horseshoe Indianapolis Race 4

After the heat nixed our original plans for today’s article, we shift our focus from Delaware Park to Horseshoe Indianapolis. A field of nine fillies and mares are entered for this allowance race. They will go a mile and 70 yards on the main track.

Favored in today’s race is the 2 Watcher (5/2 morning line). She won an off-the-turf optional claiming race at Horseshoe Indy last time out going gatee to wire. Though she has been entered on the turf more than dirt over the last year or so, dirt may be her better surface. She will be near the front this afternoon but will leave Indiana bred company here.

The 7 Miss Susan B (4/1 ML) returned after a four-month layoff and had the lead and tired late in her return race. She is not a front running horse and should be sitting a few lengths off the lead. I would expect the latter from her today with a larger field than last time out.

The 1 Shared Vision (7/2 ML) will go two turns for the first time after a lackluster performance at Churchill Downs last month. She should be able to handle the stretch out but has regressed so far this year.

The 6 Tesouro do Pirata (12/1 ML) finished second in an off-the-turf race on Memorial Day here at Horseshoe Indy. She will be on the lead and will try to go gate to wire here today. But she might be a candidate to tire late today.

I think Miss Susan B has always given an honest effort and is always there at the end. I don’t think she wanted to be on the lead last time out but assumed the lead and almost pulled out her first win at Horseshoe Indy. She runs well but never wins. That is until this afternoon. She is the most consistent and will finally get her picture taken in the Horseshoe Indy winner’s circle.
