Quills Picks Winners – Wednesday 9/16 – Delaware Park Race 2
We have an early race on tap here this afternoon as we head down I-95 from where I am in Philadelphia to the land of tax-free shopping. We head to Delaware Park where juvenile fillies will sprint five and a half furlongs in an optional claiming race.
This race does have starter allowance conditions for those not in for the tag today. In this race, these juvenile fillies not in to be claimed must be under the conditions that they have a previous start where they ran in a race with a claiming price of $40,000 or less and has never won two races. Hopefully that helps with how some tracks right these races.
Delaware Park Race 2 – Starter Allowance Optional Claiming
Favored among this sextet is the 1 Where Are You (9/5 morning line). She won her debut race two months ago here at Delaware Park in a maiden claiming race. She stalked the pace and took over at the top of the stretch to win. This filly will probably do the same thing here for her first race since her debut win.
The 4 Weaver (2/1 ML) races for the first time since mid-June where she dropped in claiming price on short rest for the win. She appears to be the filly that will be setting the fractions from the moment the gate opens here today. There was a break from racing, but she was training consistently for her return here today.
The 6 It’s the Law Baby (3/1 ML) draws the outside in this short field. She won two weeks back here at Delaware Park closing despite getting bumped at the start and being carried outward. Even if she does not win here today, she looks like a filly who will excel in both longer races and also races over wet tracks like that Delaware main track was two weeks ago.
The 5 She’s a Dancer (6/1 ML) won her debut race here at Delaware Park, stalking on the outside and pulling away for a daylight win. She will step up here from this lower level maiden claimer to this race but could get a nice trip here if we got fillies going to fast here.

This is your typical two-year-old race where you will have to do the work to make a decision on who to play here. Where Are You goes from the outside to the inside here and appears that she will be stalking Weaver from the inside. It’s the Law Baby got her win last time out, but I think she wants more ground eventually.
She’s a Dancer will get the good trip here and I think she gets up late for the win here this afternoon. Look for her to stalk and get up late at hopefully a nice price. I’m calling this race 5-2-4-6 and my play is $20 to win on the 5. Best of luck and I’ll see you in the winner’s circle!
