Schuylerville Stakes Headlines Opening Day as Saratoga's 46-Day Summer Meet Gets Underway
Another Saratoga summer begins Friday, and as always, Opening Day offers plenty of anticipation along with a quality afternoon of racing. The 46-day stand kicks off with a 10-race program highlighted by the Grade 3 Schuylerville Stakes, the traditional first stakes race of the meet and an early proving ground for promising 2-year-old fillies.
The Schuylerville, contested at six furlongs for a purse of $175,000, has long served as an important launching pad for young talent. This year’s renewal drew a competitive field of juveniles looking to make an immediate impact on the national scene.
Opening Day also marks the beginning of another packed Saratoga season featuring 71 stakes races worth more than $20 million in purses. The meet will once again showcase many of the sport’s biggest stars while building toward marquee events including the Whitney Stakes, Alabama Stakes, Travers Stakes and Spinaway Stakes.
