Quills Picks Winners – Tuesday 7/14 – Assiniboia Downs Race 6
We head north of the border like we do on Tuesdays to Assiniboia Downs. Our race today is the sixth on a seven-race card. Tonight we have eight fillies and mares doing seven and a half furlongs in the Canada Stakes.
This is a distance that not many tracks can run. Because this track is a six-and-a-half-furlong track in circumference, they have the ability to run this distance. With the setup of the track, these fillies and mares will go two turns this evening in this stakes race.
Assiniboia Downs Race 6 – Canada Stakes
Favored in the Canada Stakes is the 7 Dontgiveupthefight (7/5 morning line). She won her AsD debut here last month sitting on the outside of the leader and wore her down to win the La Verendrye Stakes. She like the other horses in that race that entered tonight will stretch out after that race. Look for her to be near the pace again tonight.
The 3 Bling Dancer (5/2 ML) tried to take the la Verendrye Stakes gate to wire and almost did so. She is a speed horse and could have the same set up as last month here with the favorite sitting to her outside. She appears to be distance limited but this race could be right around the distance limitations I foresee.
The 4 Weleometohollywood (8/1 ML) finished fourth last time out while rallying four-wide. She got better as the races got longer last year at Assiniboia and should be up there late tonight.
The 2 Get My Drift (25/1 ML) may be the longest shot here this evening but this mare could shock some people tonight. She will try to go for the lead here tonight but has the experience in going two turns here at Assiniboia Downs. She has won three in a row and if she gets loose on the lead, she could steal this.

There is enough speed in this race at the speed horses should be cancelling each other out. Things set up nicely for the favorite Dontgiveupthefight who will pressure the leaders down the backstretch. But I think that Welcometohollywood loves two turns and will get up late for the win tonight.
