Quills Picks Winners – Sunday 7/12 – Woodbine Race 9

Quills Picks Winners – Sunday 7/12 – Woodbine Race 9

After a successful afternoon at Horseshoe Indianapolis and an unsuccessful trip to Prairie Meadows, we head north to Canada for today’s race. We have a field of nine juvenile fillies here going five and a half furlongs in the My Dear Stakes.

I believe this is our first look at newest crop of horses that have made their way to the racetrack. There will be more questions than answers as we look at this race, but let’s see if we can put this puzzle together.

Woodbine Race 9 – My Dear Stakes

Favored in our race this afternoon is the 3 Gone and Plenty (5/2 morning line). She comes in from Churchill Downs where she broke outward at the start, but she was able to get off the rail and closed well to win her debut race. Going from the turf to synthetic should not be an issue. The issue will be whether or not she can get out of the gate cleanly today.

The 7 Mrs D (3/1 ML) gunned to the lead in her debut race here at Woodbine about six weeks ago and romped in a victory. She will have a most on the outside and should be able to get to the lead here this afternoon.

The 5 Sarayu (10/1 ML) closed well in her debut to win here at Woodbine last month. She had a rail post but was able to work to get herself outside to close for the win. She might be a little slower than some of the other horses in this field, but there is a possibility that she could pick up some pieces here.

The 4 Ghost Me (4/1 ML) was quick out of the gate at Aqueduct and won a race against a very small field. The switch to synthetic should not be an issue as she goes north today. She will have more fillies to deal with here which may be my main concern.

Joe’s Pick

Usually this time of the year, anything can happen in these baby races. I was very impressed with Mrs D’s debut race and I think she has so much more to offer here today and in the future. Look for her to go gate to wire here today.

I’m calling this race 7-4-3-5 and my play is $20 to win on the 7. Best of luck and I’ll see you in the winner’s circle!
