Quills Picks Winners – Sunday 7/5 – Woodbine Race 8

We close out the holiday week the way we have closed out previous weeks here with the QPW with a trip north of the border at Woodbine. Our race is race eight of a 12-race card as older horses will sprint six furlongs on their main synthetic track in the Pink Lloyd Stakes.

Woodbine Race 8 – Pink Lloyd Stakes

Favored in our race today is the 3 Souped Up (2/1 morning line). He made his seasonal debut two weeks ago and went gate to wire in an optional claiming race. He has shown that he likes to go for the lead, but there is other horses that want the lead in this field of seven. If he needs to he can sit right behind the leaders.

The 4 Poulin in O T (3/1 ML) dueled in May in the Thorncliff Stakes here at Woodbine. He is a speedster who only knows one thing, and that one thing is going for the lead. He’s also had some fast works as he comes back after a short break.

The 7 Go Kart Mozart (5/2 ML) will add to the speed duel in this race. He won an optional claiming race here at the end of May going gate to wire as well. He’ll be on the outside of this smaller field and look for him to add to the duel up front.

The 5 Light the Lamp (5/1 ML) closed strongly in an optional claiming race and finished third, but only lost by a neck. He benefits most from the speed duel up front this afternoon and should be closing late in this race.

We have a race here were we have a ton of speed on the front end. The favorite Souped Up looked to be the most resilient of the three horses highlighted that will go for the lead. But I think he could get caught up in the speed duel this afternoon.

That will set up nicely for Light the Lamp who will get the goal today and win this race. I’m calling this race 5-3-4-7 and my play is $20 to win on the 5. Best of luck and I’ll see you in the winner’s circle!
