Quills Picks Winners – Sunday 9/20 – Woodbine Race 10

After a fun day at Parx, we head up north to Woodbine for today’s race of the day. We are looking at a field of 10 in their finale today. Optional claiming horses will sprint fix furlongs on the E.P. Taylor (or outer) turf course today.

Woodbine Race 10 – Allowance Optional Claiming

Favored in today’s race is the 6 Artemus Citylimits (5/2 ML). He started a bit slow two weeks ago here at Woodbine, tiring late and finishing fourth in a higher optional claiming race level. He is the speed in this race and can take this field gate to wire this afternoon.

The 1 Dewolf (3/1 ML) had some trouble in his most recent race three weeks ago. He was in tight around the half-mile pole, then was stuck behind a wall of horses in the stretch and could not close. He may not have the strongest closing kick, but it seemed like he was thwarted by a wall of horses in front of him last time out.

The 7 El Cohete (5/1 ML) ran well in his first race on the tur this year after racing four times on the main track. He closed well while wide to finish second three weeks ago. Look for him to make a late move here today. But will he get the setup to get by the favorite late?

The 10 Crumblin Lad (6/1 ML) races for the second time in two weeks after a three-month layoff. He probably needed that race, but his race was complicated by stumbling at the start of the race. If he can get a cleaner start this afternoon, he might try to challenge the favorite early as they go from the backstretch to the far turn.

There is some speed in this race, but I don’t think anyone will be able to keep up with Artemus Citylimits today. This gelding loves to run on the front end and was a gate to wire winner two races back in the Vice Regent Stakes. He will get to the front and never look back here today.
