Quills Picks Winners – Sunday 9/6 – Woodbine Race 9

With a pair of wins yesterday in hand, we head north to Woodbine for today’s race of the day. Race nine on their 10-race card is a stakes race going a mile and a quarter in the Wonder Where Stakes, which is restricted to fillies foaled in Canada. Six fillies are entered in this stakes race.

Woodbine Race 9 – Wonder Where Stakes

Favored in today’s race is the 2 Dixie Law (9/5 morning line). She finished fourth in the King’s Plate after having to check up at the quarter pole. It did look minor, but she did have a wide trip on that final turn. The distance and the turf should not be factors here for this filly.

The 4 Katie’s Grace (5/2 ML) won the Bison City Stakes here at Woodbine last month but before that she had the misfortune of meeting up with King’s Plate winner Luster in her previous two races. This will be her first race on the turf, but she does have some turf pedigree on the dam side. She should be able to show her closing kick with the long stretch of the E.P. Taylor turf course today.

The 6 Cool Times (9/2 ML) broke her maiden last time out going gate to wire. She should be able to take to the turf and may be able to steal this race on the front end here this afternoon.

The 1 Bold Time (3/1 ML) returns to the turf after finishing second to Katie’s Grace in the Bison City. Her lone race on the turf wasn’t that great, but it was the first race off of a five-month layoff, so there could be an excuse. She could be near the pace if she gets a similar trip to last month with drawing the rail here today.

Sometimes I’m leery about playing horses on the turf that run on the front end. But Cool Times is speed in this race and the only horse that I think can close on her is Katie’s Grace. But I think Cool Times turns the tables on Katie’s Grace here and wins this turf stakes race.
