Quills Picks Winners – Tuesday 6/16 – Assiniboia Downs Race 6

It’s Tuesday, which means we head north of the border for some Canadian night racing. We are looking at race six of a seven race card at Assiniboia Downs.

A full field of ten horses will spring six furlongs in Winnipeg in our featured race of the night. Let’s get some caffeine in us for this optional claiming race.

Assiniboia Downs Race 6 – Allowance Optional Claiming

Favored in our featured race tonight is the 5 Judo (5/2 morning line). He races for the first time since March where he was wide while finishing fourth at Fonner Park. He returns to Assiniboia today where he won four races in a row last year. This gelding can be close to the lead or further back and is running a distance he loves as well.

The 8 Trulli Warrior (5/1 ML) won here at AsD two weeks ago going gate to wire in an optional claiming race. His best races have been on the lead, like two weeks ago, having won races at Laurel Park and Parx since last summer. He looks like he could be alone on the lead here again this evening.

The 10 Wico (4/1 ML) closed well two weeks ago and could not get by Trulli Warrior. He ran well at Woodbine last year on their main synthetic track in claiming races. Look for him to be closing yet again but may be hung wide on the turn this evening.

The 4 Taillights (7/2 ML) likes to be closer to the pace and will try to keep pace with Trulli Warrior early. He does have the ability to run well while starting and could occasionally fire from further back. Don’t be surprised if he wins this race.

For a race going six furlongs, there is not that much front running speed. I think this helps Parx alum Trulli Warrior. He fought hard in deep stretch to win two weeks ago. Look for another effort like this tonight as he will get the win today.
