Quills Picks Winners – Thursday 7/23 – Saratoga Race 7
We head to Saratoga for this afternoon’s race as we have a field of three-year-old fillies bred in New York State in the Suzie O’Cain Stakes. These state bred fillies will go a mile and a sixteenth on the inner turf course.
Note that there are nine horses running, but up to eight horses will run. The 9 Lady Rose is entered for as a “main track only” entrant and would need the race to come off the turf. If this race is somehow taken off the turf before the morning scratches, she is the pick and stop reading further. But since this will be on the turf, please read onward.

Saratoga Race 7 – Suzie O’Cain Stakes
Favored in this stakes race is the 3 All of It (8/5 ML). She is two for row in her count career after two impressive wins to start off her career. She won here at Saratoga last month at today’s distance with a daylight win against elders. Look for her to sit and make that one big move like she has done in her first two races here today in her first foray against stakes company.
The 2 Coach of the Year (15/1 ML) finished first three weeks ago but was disqualified for veering out in the stretch. It did seem questionable but did run well in her second race of the year. She is still a maiden, but will she be able to step up against winners here today?
The 5 Celtic Dawn (5/2 ML) won her turf debut sprinting at Aqueduct last month. She is three for three lifetime in her young career and can will look to continue her winning ways. She may be distance limited with her pedigree, but this distance may be still in her range here.
The 8 Considerate City (8/1 ML) closed well to finish second at Aqueduct last month to miss by a length on the grass. She has run well so far this year on the lawn and should not have any issues with going into stakes company here.

Joe’s Pick
I should be concerned about the potential distance limitations with Celtic Dawn but I think that she can sit and make one move going two turns today. She might not do well going longer than today’s distance of a mile and a sixteenth, but I think she has enough to get up late to defeat the favored All of It today.
I’m calling this race 5-3-8-2 and my play is $20 to win on the 5. Best of luck and I’ll see you in the winner’s circle!
